The GFSC is looking for awesome people to help out with College Royal this year! College Royal reps Amanda and Marielle need volunteers to help with arts and crafts, coming up with fun food science trivia, making displays and a few extra special people to work on two Super Happy Fun Time art projects!
We are looking for 1 to 3 people to work on 3 different displays (Sensory Evaluation, Product Development and Food Microbiology) and ARTISTIC people to help with the arts projects, so email Amanda and Marielle to stake your claim on your favourite display or art project!
Descriptions of each display and the Super Happy Fun Time art projects are listed below.
Display 1: Sensory Evaluation
· Write up the text that goes under each of the following headings:
o What is Sensory Evaluation?
o Why is Sensory Evaluation Used?
o Difference Between Consumer Testing and Trained Panel
o We have asked Anita to provide us with a small write-up outlining the sensory test that people will be doing. The room will be set up so that people do the sensory test BEFORE they see the display board!
Display 2: Product Development
· Write up the text that goes under each of the following headings:
o What is a new food product?
o How does something go from idea to product?
o How consumer trends impact new ideas
o How different parts of the world need/want different types of products (this is to tie in with the samples of food products from around the world we will have on display)
Display 3: Food Microbiology
· Write up the text that goes under each of the following headings:
o How microbiology affects food safety
o Not all "microbes" are bad! (e.g., vinegar, beer, wine, et cetera)
o How to keep your food safe at home
Super Happy Fun Time Art Project 1: Mural
Design a colouring-book style outline that kind of shows a progression from farm to fork with an emphasis on food scientists doing cool stuff (thanks to Adi for the great idea!)
Super Happy Fun Time Art Project 2: Mad Food Scientist Face Cut-Out Board
The general idea is to have two people (the faces will be cut out holes) in lab coats holding up crazy food and science things (funny coloured/shaped foods, beakers/flasks, et cetera)
Thanks in advance to all the volunteers who will be helping out on these projects!
